CHOCOLATE!!
I took one sip as I walked over to her, and tried my best to hide my expression. Insisting she try it immediately, I waited for her reaction. She found it okay, but I couldn’t taste anything but the sweetness of sugar. I ended up giving her my glass and stalking back to the fridge to look at the sugar content (probably something I should have done before buying). She finished both glasses for me (thankfully, I would have hated to waste it).
25.3g per serving of 250mL = 101.2g per 1L carton
This seemed like a LOT of sugar. I knew 1g of water is about 1ml of water, and though different things have different densities (and therefore grams don’t always equal millilitres), most things are relatively close to that ratio. So did this mean 100g of sugar equalled 100ml in that drink? If this was anything close to correct, this cartoon is 1/10 sugar.
So what did I do? I poured out 100g of sugar (raw sugar, if that makes a difference) to give myself a visual representation.

From this visual representation, an IDEA formed.
For the next few days (or as long as I can go without forgetting), I’m going to record the sugar in my food, and add its equivalent in raw sugar to a container for visual record of what I’m eating. At the end of each day, I’ll post a photo somewhere (TBA) showing how much sugar is in the basic foods that I eat. I’ll try my best to stick to my current diet and not be put off by looking at the sugar content (though I won’t be drinking that Choc Milk again, sorry, that was too much).
By the end of it, I’ll let you know what I found to taste the most sugary (I know one of the sweet chilli sauces in our fridge tastes like pure sugar much like this Choc Milk), and which ones had more sugar than expected through their taste. I’m not sure what exactly I’ll find, but we’ll see what happens. Wish me luck!
