Notice – My Absence

I’m aware I haven’t been posting for a while. Why? It’s a mix of complete writers block, and just simply being busy. I’ve been renovating a pool table for my boyfriend (it was our one year anniversary this month), visiting family in Bunbury, babysitting, running back and forth everywhere, trying to fit in horse riding lessons, etc.
My friend and I are also moving out of our separate accommodation and into a house together, renting it to ourselves (and hopefully one other person since we have a spare room). There’s so many issues with moving into your own home (renting, but I believe some of these may apply for buying your house too).
There’s the fact that you need furniture, and are going from a bedroom where you own a bed, and maybe a TV… Finding furniture is hard, and it’s fine, except you need to get all the expensive stuff first, and you need it all at once. Fridge, freezer, washing machine, microwave, etc. Luckily, we had all the basics from stored second hands and hand-me-downs from family (they work despite having had four or five different owners). The only thing I’ve had to buy so far was a washing machine, which is little and cheap but runs and works so that’s all that matters. I also went on a spending spree and bought us a huge kitchen set for less than $40, including plates, bowls, cutlery, cups, etc.
Then there’s actually finding a home. Each house seems to have a different inspection day, meaning we have to drive the hour to where we want to move once every day for a five minute look of the house before driving back. A lot of houses don’t have inspection times, and you have to wait for them to email you back a time, which is often the morning that the inspection is available. Then when you finally do get two inspection times on the same day, they’re some how at the exact same time. Add in that houses that look great on pictures aren’t always good in person, then sometimes houses you thought weren’t that great suddenly jump to one of the favourites when you can actually stand in the house itself.
My friend has also found the ultimatum; which comes first, the chicken or the egg, the phoenix or the flame? Centrelink won’t pay her until she moves in, and she needs proof of earning Centrelink on the application paper before she can move in.
It’s also our first time renting a house (I’ve only ever rented rooms before), so we are trying to figure out all the technical bits. What the application forms mean about bond assistance, where to pay the bond and where it goes, who to put on the lease, how to figure out all the rules, how to organise for the utilities to be set up, etc.
So that’s taking up a chunk of my time. The only reason I have a break now to type is because I’m printing a bunch of paperwork (bank statements and Centrelink pay slips, etc.) and used a fast printer that did it all super quick, and now I’ve got extra time to spare.
That time is quickly running out though, so I’ll wrap this up. I’ve been busy, but I’ll still be posting as soon as I find something to post about.
